Head's Welcome

Balsall Common Welcome film

Welcome to Balsall Common Primary School.

Head Welcome

Welcome to our school.

In August 2016, Balsall Common Primary School became the lead school in the Central Schools Trust, which includes Damson Wood Nursery and Infants School.

Balsall Common Primary School is widely considered to be one of the best primary schools in the country and received an Outstanding OFSTED judgement in February 2014. Children who attend this school are supported in becoming well-balanced and independent youngsters, who thrive on challenge, and are thoroughly engaged with their learning. The end result is socially well adjusted, high attaining young people, who go on to make the very best of their potential.

We strive to create the most dynamic learning environment for every child, celebrating their individuality and what they can bring to our school community.

Underpinning our school’s vibrant, high-quality learning environment are our values. We have the highest expectations and aspirations for the children here. We work closely together and support one another towards excellence.

School is a busy place where learning is not just confined to the academic curriculum. Children learn how to relate to others, how to build a strong community and develop resilience in their character that enable each one to succeed.

The excellent start begins in nursery and continues throughout the school with an exciting, stimulating and cohesive curriculum that supports learners’ engagement using strategies like Mantle of the Expert and Building Learning Power (both of which are commented on in more detail in the Curriculum section below).

The school provides its own Before and After School ‘Dragons’ provision, which runs from 7.30am until the start of the school day, and then from 3.30pm until 6.00pm, together with swim lessons after school and at the weekend.

The school provides a huge quality of extracurricular activities, such as football, netball, speed stacking, homework, science and much, much more!

Our curriculum is constantly evolving to reflect the needs that today’s learners will need in the future. We see so many success stories of children from a wide range of backgrounds, all with individual needs, achieving so much, and enjoy celebrating this with their families. We celebrate the diversity of culture within our community as it enables us to become contributing citizens to a global community.

The success of the school relies on the strong partnerships we build with parents and children as we all aspire for success as children begin their formal education. Governors are passionate about the school and play a key role in holding the school to account for our provision, enabling the school to thrive. With a talented and dedicated team of staff to support, children thrive here! It is a privilege to play our part in enabling them to realise all that they can become when they commit to learning for life.
