Swimming at BCPS
We are very lucky at our school to have our own heated pool. We teach all children from Nursery up to year 6. Children swim fortnightly to allow for longer lesson time. The children work through the Swim England ‘Learn to Swim’ programme, starting with the Ducklings award in Nursery and then progressing through the 7 stages of the programme, the aim being that the children progress to stage 7 by the time they reach year 6. Through this scheme we can target specific skills and techniques and we monitor their progress and development regularly.
Competitive Swimming at BCPS
As well as regular school swimming, BCPS also have a swim squad from years 3-6 that are selected to compete for the school. Each year group trains before school and the older children also work on fitness, through land-based training.
We compete at swimming galas across the region, against other schools, averaging about 10 galas a year.
Our year 5 and 6 swim squad also train to compete in the English Schools Swimming Association national competition, swimming against some of the best swimmers in the country. We have reached the National Final at Ponds Forge in Sheffield 3 times in the last 5 years.
