BCPS went all green again with Severn Trent’s Water Day

The Water Day was held as part of the schools ongoing commitment to Eco topics. The day started when Maxine Smith from Severn Trent delivered a memorable whole school water assembly, where the children promised to only fill the bath ½ full and only shower for 4mins – all to save water.

They then went outside and joined Clare Dare and Dave Cork from the Severn Trent team to take part in a series of experiments, simulations that would be part of a working day at Severn Trent and to sort out what should and should not go down the loo.

Renewable Energy assembly

Julie Dixon from Eon Energy recently visited us at Balsall Common Primary School to cover a very topical subjects.

What is climate change? What is carbon? How does it affect us? What can we do to reduce our carbon footprint? These were only four of many questions Julie discussed with our Key Stage 2 pupils.

The children also learnt that each household on average uses 12 tonnes of CO2 per year and picked up tips on how they could become carbon neutral. Did you know for example that 12 trees have to be planted each year to offset our carbon emissions?
