Sponsorship at Balsall Common Primary

I have now been in post for over 5 years and I hope by now most of you know who I am, if not completely what it is that I do in school. Since we changed to an academy back in 2012 my role has been to gain sponsorship, grants and apply for funding where available. I have also been able to develop relationships with both local and National businesses. This supports the school to further enhance pupils’ education through ‘Real Life Learning’ or by funding some of the little extras.

I am keen to forge further ties with businesses so if you know anybody who is looking to fulfil their Corporate & Social Responsibility (CSR), advertise or be involved with the school then please pass on their details to me or feel free to pass mine to them.

Some of you may have seen the 'sponsor a brick' campaign. This was done on the back of the hard work already carried out by the PTA.

Parents can buy a brick for just £25 as a lasting reminder for their children; the forms are in reception, so anything you can do to promote this will be much appreciated.

Sponsorship wall at Balsall Common Primary

I also launched the Balsall Common Primary Sponsors Wall where businesses can buy virtual bricks for just £150 per annum to add their company logo and link to their website. Companies can use the Sponsors Wall to tell us about special offers or events they want to promote to BCPS parents.

Following talks with our existing sponsor Atkinson Stilgoe they were quick to jump on board and pledge a further £10,000 to the school over the next 4 years. This is the second time they have done this and have now donated over £20,000. They are also regulars at the PTA Summer Gala and Christmas Fayre running stalls and donating back the proceeds.

John Shepherd Select, were very generous in giving £8,000 toward the new nursery garden and have also supported the school in various other ways helping out with stage lighting, £3,500, and sponsoring various events including the PTA Centenary Ball and ‘Stars in Their Eyes’.

PathwaysStandley & Co Solicitors, Signarama, Midshire Business Systems, Acclaimed Mortgages, Marriott Forrest of Arden, John Lewis, Balsall Common Dental, Utility Warehouse, Tesco, Ginger Properties, DMS, Solihull College, Coversure Insurance, WOW Signals, Four Ashes Golf, PM Group, Birmingham Airport Holiday Inn and Sainsbury’s have all been quick to follow. Please support them all in supporting us and visit their websites.

In 2015 we won the Business in Education Partnership award and I have gone on to win other awards as well as writing for a National schools magazine to share my experiences and hopefully help other schools help their children  and enhance learning.

We have linked up with easyfundraising, this is a way everyone can support the school simply by buying goods through the easyfundraising website, these goods are often at a discounted rate so check here first !

We have linked to borrowclub, where you can loan your goods for a fee or borrow someone elses if you don’t want to purchase something that you only use maybe once or twice a year. I have set up the BCPS Travel Club where you can search 1000’s of holidays at discount prices and again support the school by doing nothing more than you usually do.

In the last two years I have gained £400 of cooking equipment, a new double oven, hand blenders, Griddle Pans and lots of other items and ingredients for the Cooking Club. Seetar Tandoori in Kenilworth supported our Food Week by bringing lots of tasty treats, Oakes Farm have supplied all of the eggs for the Cooking Club and Forrest of Arden and Holiday Inn have supplied most of the ingredients as well as supporting the Cookathon where 715 children cooked a Biryani, in ONE DAY! And the Mini Cookathon with a mere 120 Year 1 children cooking a stir fry in one afternoon.

I secured £112,500 for the flat roof in KS1, £9,500 for disabled facilities in the pool, £1,500 to repair the KS1 Adventure Playground, £1,900 for sports kit and equipment and £132,724 for lighting upgrades and rewiring. We also won £2,000 for the Cookathon!

Midshire Business Systems now sponsor our Newsletter so not only is it in glorious colour, it is free to the school to print! I've gained numerous prizes for the school fetes and raffles where sponsors pledged meals, tools, gardening equipment, printers, tickets to Rugby, Football, coffee makers, Paintballing, laser tag, sports memorabilia, an adrenalin day and a very large teddy!!

I organised delivery of the minibus and since then it has been regularly used to transport children to all of their sports fixtures and I have also arranged behind the scenes tours and trips to Prodrive Banbury, Monarch Airlines, The National Motor Cycle Museum, John Lewis, Marriott Forrest of Arden, Balfour Beatty, Oakes Farm, Birmingham Hippodrome, Ram Hall Farm, Network Rail and many other venues as well as getting businesses to visit us.

JD from Free Radio come in with his team and fixed the radio equipment saving us over £1,000, they then continued to do their show with the children as guest announcers for news, travel and the weather.

I have secured additional outside seating and some black boards for the key stage 1 playground. Nursery had an outside tap fitted, the play house has been re-felted, Nature Club has a Bug Hotel and all of the outside fences were painted by JLR as part of a team building day, again saving us thousands.

I also arranged an alternative Skills Day for Year 6 when the Skills Show decided to exclude primary school children. With the help of Solihull College 90 Year 6 pupils now get a chance to have hands on experience and to see first-hand what is available to them in future in regards to education and job opportunities.

Many of the events have featured in the local press and copies can be found in the News section on our website or simply Google the school.

I have many more exciting projects coming up so if you want to get involved, become a sponsor or just have a question then please do not hesitate to stop me and ask, or feel free to contact me at the school on:
